Wait … I’m supposed to clean my humidifier?” If that’s what’s running through your head as you click on this article, we’re here to help! Humidifiers have a well-deserved reputation as a key product on the front line between viruses/dryness and your family, but they need the proper attention to function at their best. Keeping a clean humidifier stops the spread of nasty bacteria and makes sure that your humidifier works at the top of its game.

Cleaning is Necessary?

If you’re like the majority of the population, then you might not even know you need to clean your humidifier. Only 35% of people actually clean their humidifiers – 35%!! And then of those who do clean their humidifier, cleaning only happens roughly every 3 weeks. Plenty of time for bacteria and mold to grow in the stagnate water and all those crevices.

Bad bacteria

While using a dirty humidifier isn’t going to spell doom and destruction for you and your family, the bacteria that crops up can cause many unpleasant symptoms and infections. From day 3 to day 14, the number of bacteria grows almost 100-foldewww! And let’s remember that on average, people only clean their humidifiers every 3 weeks … so that’s a lot of bacteria, folks!

Health Issues

Humidifiers, by their very nature, are full of water that hangs around just waiting for bacteria and mold to grow, unless dealt with properly. The mist released from a dirty humidifier can potentially cause headaches, dizziness, nausea, and breathing problems (i.e. asthma attacks). Nobody likes the regular flu, so make sure you don’t end up with flu-like symptoms when you could have just kept your humidifier clean.
